View from the roof terrace
Mamas Galle Fort Roof Café and b & b at 76 Leyn Baan Street in the
ancient citadel of Galle Fort, is close to the lighthouse, and two minutes
on foot from the beach.
This beautifully restored mid nineteenth century Chinese shop house is
run by a Singhalese Catholic: Jerome Perera and his Buddhist wife Malini.
There are two excellent air-conditioned suites, each of 40 square metres and
two single rooms; all have fans. The house offers a dining hall and a
ninety square metre roof terrace, with shade and views to the sea over
palms and pan-tiled roofs. It is, in the not very humble opinion of Jean
Louis Chasse Loup de L'Aubert ' far and away the best value in the fort
'.
